The Sun of Vergina<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Sun of Vergina is the symbol I chose for selfknowledge.today. I once cut the symbol out of paper and digitized it. Through practicing Greek music, I also grew to love Greek culture. In it, many beautiful images and symbols can be found. This sun is so powerful in its simplicity! It perfectly reflects what I feel about Light<\/em>.
This Vergina sun has for some time been the cause of major controversy. North Macedonia (formerly FYROM) wanted to place this sun symbol on its national flag, as the place Vergina is located in Macedonia, a northern province of Greece. However, Greece prevented this by all means, as the province is different from the country of Macedonia, they argued (and they feared future claims on this province by the neighboring country Macedonia, which, after much wrangling, was finally allowed to be called North Macedonia).
Zelfkennis.nu has now chosen this symbol for a much more peaceful symbolism, in contrast to this controversy.<\/p>\n

History<\/h3>\n

\"\"During excavations near the village of Vergina, the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos discovered in the fall of 1977 a beautifully preserved golden casket adorned with the symbol of a radiant sun. (Research seems to confirm that the casket, now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Vergina, contained the bones of King Philip II, although this is still disputed by some).
The Sun of Vergina has since been frequently used as a symbol. The symbol would have been used by Alexander the Great throughout his empire in the past.<\/p>\n

Inner Sun<\/h3>\n

Selfknowledge.today also uses this symbol, representing the Inner Sun that continuously shines within us, but which, due to circumstances, we are not always aware of. Much inner shadow, caused by various obstacles, dims this light for us.

The golden casket on which this Sun is depicted can be seen as our magnificent (temporary) human manifestation.
Gold<\/em><\/span><\/span>: the purest metal, but still 'matter'. Within this 'matter', within our human manifestation, lies the eternally radiant Sun that illuminates us from within.
We should focus on this inner Light continuously, allowing inner shadow to dissolve, making us mentally, emotionally, and physically much lighter. From this light, we could meaningfully discuss our enlightenment<\/em><\/span><\/span>: in the sense of less inner 'shadow' and less inner 'weight'.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
